Scaling and Polishing
Scaling and polishing are intensive deep teeth cleaning processes that effectively remove plaque and tartar buildup. Although unnecessary, the dentist may numb the surrounding gums to minimize the sensation and discomfort. He begins with scaling using ultrasonic instruments that loosen the tartar. These instruments spray mists to maintain the teeth’s right temperature and wash away removed debris. Once tartar deposits are removed, the dentist shifts to either electric or hand scalers to scrub or scrape smaller deposits, as well as smoothen the surface. He ends the procedure with polishing using a slow-speed rotating brush. A small amount of fluoride or prophylaxis paste is applied on the teeth making them more stain-resistant.

Wisdom Tooth Surgery
Wisdom tooth surgery is the removal or extraction of the third molar, which may have been infected or impacted. Before the actual procedure, the dental surgeon obtains x-ray of the affected tooth to determine its location and exact position. He then proceeds by placing the patient under local anesthesia before incising the gums to access the tooth. Using a pair of forceps, the dentist loosens the tooth from the socket and gently pulls it out. If necessary, he breaks the tooth in sections to avoid hurting the gums. He then sutures the surgical site. Pain and swelling are to be expected for up to a week after the surgery. However, patients typically get back to their normal activities after three days.
