At Dr. Rishi Neurology Clinic, we use Botulinum toxin (BTX) for the treatment of Hemifacial Spasm, blepharospasm, dystonias, migraines, and other disorders. When introduced to a muscle, BTX produces a condition called chemodenervation or the temporary weakness of a particular muscle. This is essential in relieving the symptoms of dystonias and other disorders. The effects of BTX will only be fully realized after a few days following the injection. The procedure will need to be repeated after three to six months. In the majority of patients, BTX does not cause any side effects because the drug does not spread beyond the area where it is applied to. It is important to note that BTX does not represent a cure to any of the disorders but can only provide a temporary relief of the symptoms.

At Dr. Rishi Neurology Clinic, we perform nerve conduction studies to assess the health of the person’s nervous system. A Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) is a medical test used to determine if there has been any nerve damage or destruction. Also referred to as a nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test, the procedure involves sending electrical impulses through the nerves and measuring the speed of conduction. A transmitting electrode is fixed to one end of a nerve being tested. Another electrode is placed at the other end to measure the time it takes for the electrical impulse to travel between the two electrodes. Abnormal readings will indicate damage to the nerves due to a traumatic injury, contusion, or various types of diseases.

Dr. Rishi Neurology clinic specializes in providing treatment for Parkinsonism and other movement disorders. Since many of these diseases do not have a cure, the treatment options aim to relieve the symptoms of the disease. Treatment plans can include medications, physical therapy, or surgery. Medicines that increase the dopamine level in the brain are normally used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Other medications can include antiepileptics, antiseizure, beta-blockers, and tranquilizers. Physical therapy helps the patient relearn physical movements and speech. Surgery, such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is mostly used for patients who display advanced symptoms of the disease. DBS is considered only when the quality of life of the patient has been deeply affected and can no longer be considered acceptable.
