Dr. Sargunan Sockalingam is a rheumatology and internal medicine specialist with over nine years of experience. He is an associate professor at the University Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine and he is currently heading UM Specialist Centre’s Rheumatology unit where he focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of various rheumatic diseases. He graduated with an MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College (India) and Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the University of Malaya (Malaysia). He also completed a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of New South Wales (Australia).
He is the President of the Arthritis Foundation of Malaysia.

He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue diseases, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, soft tissue rheumatism and the vasculitides. Treatment of rheumatological diseases focuses on disease modification to prevent damage and deformity, along with complete relief of symptoms, and improved quality of life. Dr. Sargunan’s area of interest is differential diagnosis of difficult medical cases and targeted therapy in line with current improvements in the development of cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
