Dr. Sargunan Sockalingam is a rheumatology and internal medicine specialist with over nine years of experience. He is an associate professor at the University Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine and he is currently heading UM Specialist Centre’s Rheumatology unit where he focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of various rheumatic diseases. He graduated with an MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College (India) and Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the University of Malaya (Malaysia). He also completed a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of New South Wales (Australia).
He is the President of the Arthritis Foundation of Malaysia.
As part of a tertiary medical centre, UM Specialist Centre’s internal medicine unit has easy access to modern diagnostic imaging and therapeutic technologies as well as multi-disciplinary medical teams composed of general practitioners and specialists. This helps in providing patients with comprehensive treatment should their condition requires it.

He is currently heading UM Specialist Centre’s internal medicine unit where he offers a range of services for the diagnosis and treatment of various rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue diseases, and ankylosing spondylitis, to name a few. Among the treatments that he provides include soft tissue injections, joint aspiration, therapeutic injections, minimally invasive intervention, and advanced therapy with biologics and small molecules. Dr. Sockalingam’s genuine care for the health and overall well-being of his patients is the reason why he strives to provide the best possible outcomes. He ensures that all efforts are taken to provide accurate diagnoses and targeted treatment. He treats all his patients with utmost respect, care, and integrity. He is a member of the Malaysian Society of Rheumatology and executive member of the Arthritis Foundation of Malaysia. Aside from his clinical practice, he is also passionate about conducting research and studies as well as teaching the next generation of rheumatologists. He has published numerous articles in academic journals and has presented at local and international conferences.
