Dr. Siva Kumar Ariaretnam is an accomplished trauma surgeon and internationally-trained joint reconstruction specialist. He maintains clinics at some of Malaysia’s premier tertiary hospitals including Ara Damansara Medical Centre, a Joint Commission International (JCI), International Standards Organisation (ISO), and International Society for Quality Healthcare (ISQua)-accredited medical facility located in Selangor.
Dr. Siva’s qualifications include MBBS degree (Pondicherry University, India) and Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery (University of Malaya, Malaysia). Following his graduation, he went abroad to further his knowledge. In 2007, he completed the Australian Foundation Fellowship in Sydney, Australia where he received extensive training in all aspects of primary and revision hip and knee replacement and reconstruction surgery as well as arthroscopic ligament reconstruction and keyhole and joint-preserving realignment surgeries. He also completed a one-year fellowship training in joint reconstruction at the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Siva is the first in Southeast Asia to successfully perform the first case of US FDA-approved patient-specific (PSI) knee replacement surgery as well as the first locking plate-system for complex pelvic surgery and unicompartmental mobile-bearing knee replacement surgery in Malaysia.
Dr. Siva Kumar Ariaretnam started his career in orthopaedics in 1996 when he completed his MBBS degree from Pondicherry University in India. He then went to Malaysia and pursued his Masters Degree in Orthopaedic Surgery, which he completed in 2004. In 2007, Dr. Siva decided to pursue higher learning abroad and completed his Australian Foundation Fellowship in Sydney, Australia. He also trained at the University of Western Ontario, Canada for a year under renowned orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Robert Bourne and Dr. Steven MacDonald. Both fellowships helped him gain in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in all aspects of hip and knee replacement and reconstructive surgery (both primary and revision). Dr. Siva has had many career highlights since he started in this field. These include being the first to perform a US FDA-approved PSI knee replacement surgery in Southeast Asia and the first in Malaysia to carry out a newer-generation unicompartmental mobile-bearing knee replacement surgery. Following the completion of his fellowship training, Dr. Siva served as a consultant and visiting medical officer at Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service (NSCCAHS) where he trained orthopaedic residents and performed various trauma and orthopaedic surgeries, further honing his knowledge and surgical skills.
