With over seventeen years of experience in Cardiology and over two decades of clinical experience in Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Yee Kok Meng has established a stellar reputation in his field and is well trained in every aspect and procedure in invasive and non-invasive cardiology.
Dr. Yee finished his degree in Internal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, UK in 1993 and finished his specialization in Cardiology at the internationally renowned Papworth Heart Center at Cambridge University in 2001. Shortly after, he became a consultant in Interventional Cardiology at the Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Malaysia, and then became affiliated with Pantai Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Yee has a vast experience in a wide range of interventional procedures and has performed over 2,300 percutaneous coronary intervention treatments. He is experienced in the use of various state-of-the-art adjunctive devices and therapies such as distal protection devices (FilterWire and PercuSurge) rotational atherectomy, new thrombectomy devices, intravascular ultrasound, and coronary Doppler wire.
Because of his practice in the UK, Dr. Yee is also highly trained in the use of niche devices and therapeutic procedures that are still not currently available in other parts of Malaysia including vascular brachytherapy (Galileo System) for in-stent re-stenosis and alcohol septal ablations for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
Coronary Angioplasty, simply referred to as Angioplasty, is a procedure commonly performed to treat atherosclerosis, a condition characterized by the blockage of arteries. When the blocked arteries are those that lead to the heart, the condition is then called coronary arteries disease. In an angioplasty, the surgeon first identifies which portions of the arteries are blocked. A thin tube will then be inserted into the artery. The tube is fixed with a small balloon towards the tip, and when this reaches the blocked area, the balloon is inflated to clear the blockage. Blood flow is improved, and the symptoms of heart disease, such as chest pains and shortness of breath slowly diminish. Dr. Yee Kok Meng offers high quality but affordable Coronary Angioplasty to both local and international patients.
Cardiac Stress Test
A heart scan stress test, otherwise known as a Cardiac Stress Test, is a procedure used to determine how the heart responds to external stress. The test is performed in a clinical environment with the aid of exercise equipment, such as a treadmill or a stationary bicycle. An electrocardiogram is connected to the patient to monitor the heart’s performance as the difficulty of the exercise increases. A nuclear heart scan can also be performed once the heart has achieved a higher level of activity. A radioactive tracer is injected into the body, and its movement is monitored by cameras to identify any areas where blood flow may have decreased. Dr. Yee Kok Meng, an experienced interventional cardiologist, provides this service to domestic patients as well as medical travelers in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.
Permanent Pacemaker (PPM)
The heart contracts at a regular rhythm to pump blood to the rest of the body via electrical signals emitted by a group of cells called the sinus node. However, there are times when the electrical signals are faulty thus resulting in an irregular or an abnormally fast or slow heartbeat. A Permanent Pacemaker (PPM) replaces the built-in electrical system of the heart. It emits low energy electrical signals to both the upper and lower heart chambers to ensure that the heartbeat is produced at regular intervals. Technically advanced pacemakers can also monitor other factors such as blood temperature, heart rhythm, and breathing rate. Dr. Yee Kok Meng offers Permanent Pacemaker to both local and international patients.
