IconSOC is a private group practice in Singapore that offers comprehensive specialist cancer care. Previously known as Singapore Oncology Consultants, it is made up of a group of nine highly experienced cancer specialists with subspecialty interests and training in the treatment of all forms of cancer. They have more than 120 years of combined practice experience and are recognised as pioneers in cancer care not only in Singapore but also across South East Asia.

IconSOC is part of the Icon Group, Australasia’s largest provider of cancer care. Its services include chemotherapy, haematology, and cancer screening and diagnosis. It has clinics at major hospitals in Singapore, namely Mount Alvernia Medical Centre, Farrer Park Medical Centre, Gleneagles Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre, and Paragon Medical Centre. This gives IconSOC easy access to cutting-edge diagnostic technology and modern medical facilities. When needed, the clinic collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of cancer specialists, including but not limited to surgical oncologists, palliative care specialists, and radiation oncologists to provide the best possible treatment plan for patients.

<p>Dr. Yew Oo Tan is a US and Canada-trained <a href="https://www.docdoc.com/info/specialty/cancer-specialists">medical oncologist</a> with more than 45 years of practice experience. </p> <p>Following the completion of his MBBS degree in 1971 at the University of Singapore, he went to the United States and Canada to further his knowledge in haematology, internal medicine, and medical oncology. He completed the following abroad: </p> <ul> <li>Internship and residency in internal medicine – Michael Reese Medical Centre in Chicago and Sinai Hospital of Detroit (1972-1975)</li> <li>Fellowship in haematology – Long Island Jewish Medical Centre, New York (1975-1977)</li> <li>Fellowship in medical oncology – McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (1997-1978)</li> </ul> <p>Following is postgraduate training, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (1976), Haematology (1978) and Medical Oncology (1981). He also obtained his specialist certificates in internal medicine (1976) and haematology (1977) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. </p> <p>Upon his return to Singapore, he joined the University of Singapore’s department of medicine as a lecturer (1978). Following his promotion to senior lecturer (1979), associate professor of medicine (1983), and professor of medicine (1991), he became the head of the department in 1998. He has been a mentor and teacher to many doctors and oncologists in Singapore. </p> <p>He also held executive positions in many professional organisations, including: </p> <ul> <li>Chairman, Chapter of Physicians, Academy of Medicine Singapore (1984-85)</li> <li>Chairman, Council of Singapore Cancer Society (1982-1998)</li> <li>President, Singapore Society of Oncology (1987-1988)</li> <li>Vice-president, Asia Oceania Clinical Oncology Association (1992-1995)</li> </ul> <p>In 1993, he went into private practice as a medical oncology and haematology specialist but continued to serve on several committees in the Ministry of Health. </p> <p>Dr. Tan has published extensively and is often invited to speak at regional and international medical meetings, conferences, and seminars. </p>

Following the completion of his internship in medicine and surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, he went to the United States and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine as well as his fellowship in haematology and oncology at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Centre in New York City. </p> <p>He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (haematology, internal medicine, and medical oncology). </p> <p>Upon his return to Singapore, he joined the National University Hospital as a senior registrar (1998-1999), consultant and director of clinical services (2000-2005), head (2005-2011), and senior consultant (2006-2015) at the department of haematology-oncology. He is also the former associate director of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) and was a senior consultant to Singapore Oncology Consultants. </p>
