Island Orthopaedic Group has a large team of senior orthopaedic and sports surgeons and physicians with subspecialty interests in knee/hip replacements, spine surgery, sports medicine/surgery, and minimally invasive orthopaedic procedures.
The clinic is also fully equipped to provide comprehensive care for patients with arthritis, bone and soft tissue tumours, and orthopaedic trauma. Its services also include arthroscopic sports surgery, adult joint reconstruction, lower limb surgery, arthroscopic joint and ligament surgery, and foot and ankle surgery.
The clinic is helmed by Dr. Ooi Lai Hock, the former deputy head and consultant of Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s department of orthopaedic surgery. He is trained in London and Australia and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His subspecialty interests lie in foot and ankle surgery and hip and knee replacement surgery.
<p>Dr. Leslie Ng is an orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty interest in degenerative and deformity spine surgery as well as interventional pain procedures for the treatment of chronic neck and back pain. His services include robotic and O-arm computer spine surgery, scoliosis correction, and spinal stenosis surgery. He also provides treatment for slipped discs, spine fractures and cancer, <a href="http://www.docdoc.com/info/condition/osteoporosis">osteoporosis</a>, orthopaedic trauma, degenerative joint conditions, and long bone fractures. </p> <p>Dr. Ng completed his medical degree at the University of London in the United Kingdom in 1998. He then completed his basic surgical training and his spine clinical research for 18 months. Prior to going into private practice in Singapore, he practiced at the world-renowned Centre for Spine Studies and Surgery, Queen’s Medical Centre, University Teaching Hospital of Nottingham. </p> <p>Upon his return to Singapore, Dr. Ng joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital as a spine and general orthopaedic surgeon. He pioneered the use of miniature titanium implant in the treatment of osteoporosis vertebra fracture and conceptualised the indirect decompression of spinal canal. He is also trained in evidence-based procedures for the treatment of chronic neck and back pain. </p> <p>Aside from his private practice, Dr. Ng is also actively involved in teaching and mentoring future doctors at the National University Hospital where he serves as an adjunct assistant professor. He is a member of the AO International Spine, World Spine Column Society, and the British Association of Spine Surgeons.</p>
<p>Dr. Ang Chia-Liang is an orthopaedic surgeon at Island Orthopaedic Consultants. </p> <p>He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Masters in Orthopaedics in Singapore. He received training at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham (United Kingdom) and in the United States courtesy of his American Orthopaedic Association-ASEAN Travelling Fellowship. </p> <p>He specialises in the treatment of hip and knee conditions and in the resection of large complex tumours with the goal to preserve the limb. He also works with multidisciplinary teams composed of oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, and physical therapists in treating tumours.</p> <p>He has numerous research publications to his name and is often invited to present at international conferences across the globe. </p> <p>Prior to joining Island Orthopaedic Consultants, Dr. Ang served at Singapore General Hospital. He was also a clinical visitor at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (Birmingham, UK) and a visiting surgeon at Dr. Charles Brown, Burjeel Hospital in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). </p> <p>He is a member of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association and Singapore Medical Association. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.</p>
<p>Dr. Lai Kah Weng is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and aviation medicine specialist with specialty interests in arthroscopic joint and ligament reconstruction surgery, orthopaedic trauma, and knee and hip replacement surgery. </p> <p>He completed his medical degree at the National University of Singapore. Following his graduation, he pursued his 6-year residency in aviation medicine with the Republic of Singapore Airforce. He then practiced at some of Singapore’s biggest restructured hospitals and was subsequently conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012. </p> <p>He joined the National University Hospital in 2013 and completed his fellowship in orthopaedic knee arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and trauma at the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute. </p> <p>Dr. Lai is currently serving at Island Orthopaedic Consultants Pte. Ltd. located at Gleneagles Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Mount Alvernia Hospital, and Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre. </p>
<p>Dr. Ooi subspecialises in foot, ankle, hip and knee replacement surgeries. He has clinical interests in the areas of sports and trauma surgery.</p> <p>Dr. Ooi was formerly Deputy Head and Consultant at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. He was also Division Chief of the Foot & Ankle, and Sports Medicine Services and a member of the hospital’s Medical Board. Dr. Ooi has been awarded with numerous prizes, including the First Prize for Best Research Paper award by the Singapore Medical Journal, the Top 10 Teacher award by Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the Silver Excellent Service award.</p>
<p>Dr. Peng is a subspecialist in spinal surgery. He provides surgical treatment for conditions related to degenerative diseases, deformity, trauma, tumors, and infections. In addition, he has a keen interest in minimally invasive spine surgery, motion preservation surgery including dynamic stabilization and dynamic fusion technologies, artificial disc replacement and spinal deformity correction.</p> <p>Dr. Peng serves as expert reviewer for many international journals and is a clinical mentor at the National University of Singapore School of Medicine as well as Orthopaedic Surgery Advanced Specialist Training Programme.</p> <p>Please note that Dr. Peng currently provides consultations at 2 different clinic locations - you may be asked to see him at either of the practice locations for your booked appointment. <p>Dr. Foo graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1999. He obtained both his postgraduate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, as well as his Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2004. He subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2008. He is presently an Associate Consultant within the Musculoskeletal Tumour Service in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital.</p> <p>Dr. Foo has an active interest in orthopaedic oncology, both bone and soft tissue cancers. As the surgical member in the multi-disciplinary oncology team looking after cancer patients, Dr. Foo’s contribution lies with his expertise and experience in cancer tissue removal, as well as the subsequent reconstructive surgery. This includes limb-preserving surgery for bone and soft tissue cancers involving the limbs with reconstruction using either autografts, allografts or mega-prosthesis implants.</p> <p>Dr. Foo has completed his orthopaedic oncology fellowship under the auspices of the Singapore Government Ministry of Health Training Scholarship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, United States of America and Munster University Hospital, Germany.</p>
<p>Dr. Chong’s clinical interest lies in minimally invasive arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip, and the treatment of sports injuries. He is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore trained in the techniques of hip arthroscopy.</p> <p>Dr. Chong is also an active member of the Orthopaedics Specialist Training Committee (STC) that oversees the training of orthopaedic surgeons in Singapore. <p>Dr. Derrick Oh Chia Chiang is an orthopaedic surgeon at Island Orthopaedics in Singapore. Besides orthopaedic surgery, he also specialises in sports medicine, orthopaedic trauma surgery, and general surgery. His services include arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament, meniscus, and Bankart lesion repair, knee arthroscopy, open reduction and internal fixation of fracture, subacromial decompression, and total knee arthroplasty. </p> <p>He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1995 and Master of Medicine in 2002 at the National University of Singapore. He completed his training in general and orthopaedic surgery at Singapore General, Tan Tock Seng, and Changi General Hospitals. He subsequently pursued his advanced specialist training in orthopaedic trauma surgery and sports medicine at Dalhousie University in Canada. </p> <p>Dr. Oh was conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000 (General Surgery) and 2004 (Orthopaedic Surgery). He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore (FAMS) and member of the Singapore Orthopaedics Association. </p> <p>Prior to going into private practice, Dr. Oh served as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.</p>
