Optimax Eye Specialist Centre’s history started in 1995 when its first branch was established in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail with the main goal of redefining standards in innovative eye care in Malaysia. Investing heavily in advanced medical technologies and intensive training both in Asia and Europe, the clinic’s team has successfully brought the latest innovations and breakthrough treatments back to Malaysia to provide international standards of eye care to both local patients and medical travellers. Optimax is credited for pioneering laser vision correction in the country and for its continuous efforts to remain at the forefront of innovation and technology.
Optimax now has eight branches in Malaysia, including the one in Shah Alam, which is led by Dr. Zainura Zainal, a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon specialising in cataract and refractive surgeries with subspecialty training in vitreoretinal conditions, glaucoma, and retinal diseases. She graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and earned her Masters in Ophthalmology in 2004. She has several years of experience in treating cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy as well as performing Femto-LASIK, advanced surface ablation (ASA), and the revolutionary ReLex SMILE.
<p>Dr. Stephen Chung Soon Hee graduated from India’s University of Mysore with an MBBS degree. Following his graduation, he pursued his Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology at the University Kebangsaan in Malaysia. He then trained extensively with eye surgeons from Optimax UK and Singapore on PRK refractive laser procedures and LASIK, which are some of the procedures that he pioneered in Optimax Malaysia. </p> <p>He is currently actively involved in the development of ReLex Smile in Malaysia, the latest advancement in the field of laser eye surgery. </p> <p>Fully committed to the advancement of laser vision correction procedures, Dr. Stephen shares his knowledge by presenting his studies and papers on various local and international conferences. He also trains fellow surgeons from around the world on laser refractive surgery.</p>
<p>Dr. Ngo Chek Tung graduated from the National University of Singapore with Masters in Ophthalmology in 2008. In 2009, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth, London). He then continued his RCOphth certified vitreoretinal surgery training at St. James University Hospital in Leeds, United Kingdom. Since then, he has written numerous books and published articles in peer-reviewed journals. Among his many contributions to the field of ophthalmology is his invention of a suturing method that minimises postoperative discomfort in patients undergoing vitrectomy, which he wrote about and published in Retina Today, a renowned interactive journal in the United States. </p> <p>Specialising in vitreoretinal and cataract surgeries, his services include phacoemulsification, avastin and eylea injection (treatment for age-related macular degeneration), argon laser, optical coherence tomography, vitrectomy, LASIK eye examination, ReLex SMILE, and customised Femto–LASIK.</p>
<p>Dr. Zainura Zainal graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where she completed her MBBS degree (1996). She then pursued her Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia (KM). She has over 19 years of experience and specialises in cataract and refractive surgeries including laser vision correction. </p> <p>Prior to joining Optimax Shah Alam, she served at Kuala Lumpur and Seremban Hospitals where she gained a wealth of experience and a variety of skills in treating <a href="http://www.docdoc.com/info/condition/diabetic-retinopathy">diabetic retinopathy</a>, glaucoma, and cataracts. She is also highly proficient in Femto-LASIK, advanced surface ablation/LASEK, ReLex SMILE, phacoemulsification, and implantable collamer lenses. Dr. Zainura’s strong academic and research background were instrumental to the rapid expansion of Optimax’s clinical services in the Klang Valley.</p>
