Optimax Eye Specialist Centre was founded in 1995 with the goal to drastically improve the quality of eye care in Malaysia. After more than 20 years, the clinic has realised its goals and reached numerous milestones including pioneering laser vision correction in Malaysia and becoming the first and only eye specialist centre to be awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 Certificate for Refractive Surgery.
The clinic’s laser vision correction services include advanced surface ablation (ASA), traditional blade-LASIK, Femto-LASIK, and ReLex SMILE, the latest advancement in laser eye surgery. It also offers Ortho-K, eye examinations, corporate eye screening, and manages a wide range of eye diseases and ocular conditions.
The clinic is staffed by internationally-trained eye specialists with advanced surgical expertise and decades of combined experience.
Dr. Stephen Chung Soon Hee graduated from India’s University of Mysore with an MBBS degree. Following his graduation, he pursued his Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology at the University Kebangsaan in Malaysia. He then trained extensively with eye surgeons from Optimax UK and Singapore on PRK refractive laser procedures and LASIK, which are some of the procedures that he pioneered in Optimax Malaysia. He is currently actively involved in the development of ReLex Smile in Malaysia, the latest advancement in the field of laser eye surgery. Fully committed to the advancement of laser vision correction procedures, Dr. Stephen shares his knowledge by presenting his studies and papers on various local and international conferences. He also trains fellow surgeons from around the world on laser refractive surgery.
Dr. Chuah Kay Leong graduated from Queen’s University of Belfast Medical School (UK) where he completed his MBBS degree. In 1998, he completed his subspecialty training in external eye disease, cornea, and refractive surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Toronto in Canada. In 1999, he returned to Malaysia and started the corneal transplantation program at the Malaysian National University where he also taught fellow eye surgeons, paramedics, and medical students. In 2000, he joined Optimax Malaysia where he now treats [cataracts](http://www.docdoc.com/info/condition/cataract), glaucoma, and keratoconus and performs intraocular lens implantation and laser refractive surgical procedures. Dr. Chuah is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist (London).
Prof. Dr. Chua Chung Nen completed his Bachelor in Medical Science as well as his MBBS degree from Nottingham, England. In 1997, he pursued an extensive ophthalmology training at the Oxford Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom, which he completed in 2001. He then received the certificate of completion from the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom, becoming one of the few Malaysian ophthalmic surgeons to have done so. Dr. Chua is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the British Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
