Prior to establishing his private practice at Gleneagles Hospital, Dr. Shankar was a consultant at Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He was also appointed to establish the paediatric cardiothoracic service at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, which he headed until 2009. In April 2009, he opened his clinic at Gleneagles and established a comprehensive cardiothoracic service for both children and adults.
Since 2004, Dr. Shankar and his team have been involved in developing cardiac surgery in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where they regularly perform open-heart surgery. They are also involved with Nhi Dong 1 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, since 2008.
<p>Dr. Sriram Shankar is an adult and paediatric cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital. </p> <p>He graduated from Stanley Medical College in India and completed his three-year intensive training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in the United Kingdom. He also spent a year as a fellow in paediatric cardiac surgery at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. </p> <p>He previously practised at various UK hospitals, including Walsgrave Hospital (Coventry), Middlesex Hospital (London), Royal Brompton Hospital (London), John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford), and Harefield Hospital (London). </p> <p>He then moved to Singapore to pursue further training in adult cardiothoracic, vascular, and paediatric cardiac surgery at Singapore General Hospital, where he was subsequently appointed as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon (1996). He also established KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s paediatric cardiothoracic service, which he headed before going into private practice in 2009.</p>
