Colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination that involves the use of a CCD or a fibreoptic camera attached to a thin, flexible tube to visualize the inside of the colon or the large intestine. The main goal is to check for colorectal cancer and the causes of various symptoms including iron deficiency anaemia, chronic diarrhoea, and rectal bleeding. It is also performed to check the causes of unexplained abdominal pain or inflammatory bowel disease.

The procedure begins by placing the patient under sedative or local anaesthesia before the colonoscope is inserted into the rectum. The video camera at the tip of the tube provides the doctor a clear view of the inner lining of the large intestine including the rectum and colon. In some cases, the doctor may collect tissue samples using swabs or forceps for biopsy.

Dr. Wendy Lim Wan Dee, who is a fully trained Gastroenterology & General Internal Medicine specialist, offers this diagnostic procedure to both local and international patients.

Esophogeal Manometry is a test performed to monitor the function of the esophagus and the sphincter to identify the causes of chest pain and swallowing difficulties. It is also used to confirm gastroesophageal reflux disease. Patients are not sedated for this procedure but are typically given a freezing agent to the nose where a thin tube is inserted. This passes through the esophagus and into the stomach. The machine that is connected to the tube then records the contractions of the esophageal muscles on a graph.

Esophogeal Manometry is typically followed by a 24-hour pH study or monitoring. This allows the doctor to measure the amount and the frequency by which acid enters the stomach.

Dr. Wendy Lim Wan Dee, who specializes in Esophogeal Manometry, is highly skilled and qualified to serve both local and international patients.

A gastroscopy or upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is a primary diagnostic procedure performed to examine the lining of the esophagus. The goal of the procedure is to identify the causes of certain medical conditions including abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, weight loss, and bleeding. The procedure uses a flexible fibreoptic instrument that is inserted through the mouth to visualize the inner linings of the organs and spot abnormalities.

This camera test is typically performed under mild sedation. However, it is possible to use only local anaesthetic spray to the back of the throat depending on the patient’s pain threshold. A flexible, tiny camera will then be inserted into the mouth passing the gullet. The camera will stay inside the body for approximately five minutes. The procedure is generally painless, but patients may feel minor discomfort.

Dr. Wendy Lim Wan Dee, who is a fully trained Gastroenterology & General Internal Medicine specialist, offers this diagnostic procedure to both local and international patients.

Polypectomy is the surgical removal of polyps before they become cancerous. Due to modern advancements in the field of medicine, this procedure is now performed using a small camera and electric current making it minimally invasive. However, this can only be performed on small polyps. Large polyps are removed through laparoscopic surgical procedure.

In polypectomy, the patient is given sedative prior to the insertion of a long flexible tube through the anus that is pushed all the way to the colon. The video camera at the end of the tube helps the doctor in locating the polyps, which are then destroyed by an electric current. The same electric current is used to close the wound and to stop the bleeding.

Dr Wendy Lim Wan Dee, a fully trained Gastroenterology & General Internal Medicine specialist, performs this procedure for both local and international patients who seek high-quality medical care without spending a fortune.
