Dr. Bong Jan Jin is a consultant general and hepato-pancreatic-biliary (HPB) surgeon at Sunway Medical Centre in Malaysia.
He completed his medical degree (1996) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Leeds. After obtaining his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in the United Kingdom, he pursued his fellowship in HPB surgery at Hammersmith Hospital in London (2008-2009).
He is a former specialist registrar in HPB surgery and liver transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital in London and Royal Surrey County Hospital. In 2006, he joined Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London as a specialist registrar in laparoscopic upper GI surgery. He was also a specialist registrar in colorectal surgery at Central Middlesex Hospital, specialist registrar in breast and oncoplastic surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, and specialist registrar in laparoscopic and oesophago-gastric surgery at St. Helier’s University in London.
Besides his clinical practice, Dr. Bong is also an avid researcher. He has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including the Asian Journal of Surgery, Gastroenterology, and Nuclear Medical Biology. His research topics include post-abdominal hysterectomy, total gastric necrosis, acute pancreatitis, squamous cell carcinoma, and renal transplant.
Dr. Bong is also often invited to present and lecture at local and international medical meetings, including the 18th Chinese Surgical Congress (2017), 12th Asia Pacific Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery in Korea (2015), and the Annual Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (2013).
He is both a member (MRCS) and Fellow (FRCS) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
