Dr. Charles Bih-Shiou Tsang is a UK and US-trained consultant colorectal surgeon with special interests in minimally invasive and robotic surgery for cancer and bowel disorders. He is also well versed in proctology, endorectal and endoanal ultrasound imaging, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
He has over 15 years of experience as a consultant colorectal surgeon and is currently practicing at Colorectal Clinic Associates located at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre and Parkway East Medical Centre. Prior to going into private practice, he served at the National University Cancer Institute of Singapore as head and senior consultant for the division of colorectal surgery as well as head of surgical oncology.
Dr. Tsang graduated from the National University of Singapore with his MBBS and Master of Medicine in Surgery. He also completed his fellowship diploma in surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1993. He then pursued his residency in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota, clinical fellowship in surgery at Leeds General Infirmary in the United Kingdom, and Masters in Experimental Surgery.
Dr. Tsang is the first non-American to receive the prestigious Carl E. Christensen Outstanding Resident Scholar Award in 1997.
He is an International Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery and member of the Board of Governors of the Society for Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and Edinburgh (FRCS) and Academy of Medicine of Singapore (FAMS).
While serving at the National University Hospital as head of colorectal surgery, Dr. Tsang started the robotic colorectal surgery programme as well as the double balloon enteroscopy programme for the evaluation of small bowel disorders. He also collaborated with Jichi Medical University in Japan for the development of endoscopic submucosal dissection techniques for the removal of early colorectal tumours through endoscopy.
