His career in medicine began when he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1963 from Mahidol University. Three years later, he underwent intensive residency training at Case Western Reserve University in the USA. In 1972, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and in 1973, he was awarded a Spine Fellowship by the same university. He then became a recognized Fellow of the American College of Surgery in 1975. He is also now a Fellow of the Thai Orthopedics College of Surgeons.
Dr. Amnuay Unnanunta is presently connected with Thonburi Hospital, one of the oldest multi-specialty clinics in Bangkok, which was established in 1977 with over 400 doctors, 360 nurses, and 450 patient beds.
