Dr. Chua Soo Yong graduated with an MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore. Following the completion of his orthopaedic specialist training, he was awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme scholarship by the Ministry of Health, sending him to the renowned Krembil Neuroscience Centre at the University of Toronto where he completed his advanced training in spine surgery. He was also involved in spinal cord injury and regeneration research while there. In 2010, he was also awarded the Deputy Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association Spine Travelling Fellowship. Upon his return to Singapore, he resumed serving as deputy chief of spine service at Changi General Hospital, where he received the Best Service Award in 2012.
Dr. Chua, who is comfortable in all aspects of spinal surgery, routinely performs decompression, disc replacement surgery, and instrumented fusion. He also treats and manages patients with trauma and arthritic conditions of the limbs. His clinical interests include scoliosis, slipped discs/nerve compression, spinal cord injuries, and arthritic degenerative disease.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS).
Atlas Spine and Orthopaedic Surgery Centre combines the expertise, advanced surgical skills, and years of experience of two highly trained and qualified orthopaedic surgeons – Dr. Michael Soon and Dr. Chua Soo Yong. It was established in March 2016 with the goal to provide a complete range of evidence-based medical and surgical treatment for all known musculoskeletal conditions with a special focus on sports-related injuries and spinal conditions.
