Dr. Sharmila Sachithanandan is a senior consultant gastroenterologist at Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) in Malaysia. Her special interests lie in interventional endoscopy and hepato-pancreato-biliary medicine. Her services include capsule endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, oesophagogastric duodenoscopy (OGDS), and gastrointestinal endoscopy. She diagnoses, manages, and treats gastrointestinal stromal tumours, gastrointestinal diseases, liver and pancreatic diseases, and cancer of the liver and pancreas.
She graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 1993. She then pursued her postgraduate qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia.
She is a member of the American Society of Gastroenterological Endoscopy (ASGE), Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (MSGH), Malaysian Liver Foundation (MLF), and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE).
