Dr. Manolette Roque founded the Roque Eye Clinic to pursue his passion in serving his patients as well as his passion for business. He trained under the INTARMED 7-year accelerated medicine program of the University of the Philippines, College of Medicine, in Manila, Philippines from 1988 to 1990. After the programme, he took up a Basic Medical Science degree, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree, both also taken at the University of the Philippines. In 1994, he began his internship at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), where he developed a special interest in ophthalmology. In 1996, during his residency training at the Philippine General Hospital, he started focusing on ophthalmology. To further his career as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Roque took up post-residency training through a research fellowship on ocular immunology and uveitis in the Eye and Ear Infirmary of the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by an observership on Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service.
To maximize the use of his training as an ophthalmologist and a cataract and refractive surgeon, Dr. Roque decided to start his private practice. To fully equip him for this new milestone, he took up a Masters degree in Business Administration in Health (MBA/H) at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, one of the top graduate schools in the Philippines.
Dr. Manolette Roque is also widely esteemed by his colleagues in the field. He is now the president of the Philippine Ocular Inflammation Society, the general manager of the Ophthalmic Consultants Philippines Co., and the co-chair of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology Research Committee, among several other roles. He is also a visiting ophthalmologist at numerous eye clinics, such as the Borough Medical Care Institute and the Healthway Medical clinic chain, to name a few. Dr. Roque also regularly contributes to the advancement of ophthalmic medicine by participating in industry publications, such as the Web Journal of Ophthalmology, the Philippine Journal of Ophthalmology, and Asian Journal of Ophthalmology. Moreover, as a Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the Association of Philippine Ophthalmologists in America, it is clear that Dr. Roque’s expertise is recognized both locally and abroad.
