Dr. Lai Choon Hin is a US fellowship-trained senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty interests in hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow replacement as well as tumour surgery. He is highly experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of fractures, spinal conditions, and arthritis.
He completed his MBBS at the National University of Singapore in 1979. After being admitted as Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1984, he was awarded the HMDP scholarship by Singapore’s Ministry of Health to train at the Mayo Clinic (USA) in adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery, biomechanics, tumour surgery, and bone physiology. He was then appointed as an adult reconstruction fellow at the Mayo Clinic’s orthopaedics department, allowing him to specialise in hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow primary and revision replacement surgery.
Upon his return to Singapore, he joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he served as director of the adult reconstruction service, department of orthopaedic surgery. He then went into private practice and is now the director of the AP Centre for Joint Reconstruction at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre.
In 2007, he founded the ASEAN Arthroplasty Association to train surgeons in the ASEAN countries. He was also the president of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association.

Upon his return to Singapore, he joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital as a senior consultant and subsequently, the director of the adult reconstruction surgery service. He was also appointed as senior clinical lecturer at NUS as well as examiner for MBBS, Master’s, and FRCS examinations. He is the former president of the Singapore Orthopaedic Association and founder of the ASEAN Arthroplasty Association.
