Dr. Lai Fon Min is a fellowship-trained obstetrician, gynaecologist, and foetal-maternal medicine specialist with more than a decade of practice experience in deliveries, high-risk pregnancies, and keyhole surgery. He is skilled in various delivery options and is a strong advocate of natural birthing methods. He started the water birth movement in private hospitals in Singapore.
He completed his medical degree at the National University of Singapore in 1987. He then went on and pursued his Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Singapore) and became a member and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of the United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) and Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. In 1996, he received the HMDP fellowship from the Ministry of Health (Singapore), allowing him to pursue his subspecialty training in foetal medicine at Birmingham Women’s Hospital in the United Kingdom.
Upon his return to Singapore, he joined KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital as consultant and head of its antenatal risk assessment unit as well as consultant for its department of minimally invasive surgery.
In 2002, he went into private practice and started water birthing at Mount Alvernia Hospital. He served as president of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Singapore from 2009 to 2010.
Dr. Lai is certified by the Foetal Medicine Foundation (London) for NT scan, nasal bone, ductus venosus flow, and tricuspid flow assessment. He is also accredited by the KK Hospital for level 3 obstetric foetal anomaly scans, amniocentesis, chorionic villous sampling (CVS), and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Lai is the medical director of A Company for Women located at Camden Medical Centre, Orchard Boulevard, Singapore.
