Dr. Lau Peng Choong is a consultant general and upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgeon. He has a keen interest in minimally invasive surgery, GI and gastric cancers, achalasia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), inguinal and abdominal wall hernias, gallstone disease, and bariatric surgery.
He completed his medical degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2001 and training at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). He obtained his Masters of Surgery in 2009. He then pursued his fellowship in advanced gastric cancer surgery in South Korea and clinical fellowship in upper GI and bariatric surgery in the United Kingdom under the sponsorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He is an active member of the Malaysian Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Society (MUGIS), Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (AMM), Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA), Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Society of Malaysia (PENSMA), and the Asia Pacific Hernia Society (APHS).
