Carolyn Kee Hsiao Ying graduated from the National University of Singapore where she completed her Bachelor of Social Sciences (with Honours) in Psychology (1995). She then went to the United Kingdom where she pursued her Masters degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry (IOP) in London (2003). She also completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Satir Brief Systemic Therapy from Satir Institute of the Pacific (Canada).
From 1995 to 2015, Carolyn served at the Institute of Mental Health’s (IMH) Child Guidance Clinic (CGC) where she offered individual and group therapy to patients, trained and supervised psychologists, conducted research, and supervised a team that worked on victims of trauma and youth at risk. She has also written various articles in medical and psychological journals, newsletters, and magazines and authored children’s books on ADHD and eating disorder. In 2014, she was given the National Healthcare Group Teaching Award for Allied Health Educators in recognition of her unwavering commitment to training and mentoring fellow child psychologists.
Carolyn has extensive experience helping children and adolescents deal with various issues using cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, systemic therapy, and creative and expressive techniques, such as therapeutic play.
Adelphi Psych Medicine Clinic was founded in August 2015 at The Adelphi, a lifestyle mall that is in close proximity to the City Hall MRT. It offers art therapy, clinical hypnosis, cognitive behavioural therapy, eye movement desentisation reprocessing (EMDR), and grief therapy, among others. Its goal is to improve the mental well-being of patients suffering from various conditions such as work or school-related stress, anxiety, insomnia, depression, mood and addiction disorders, and phobia. It also offers psychotherapy and medico-legal related issues such as mental capacity affecting legal competency. Adelphi Psych Medicine Clinic features a comfortable environment where patients can feel cared for throughout their journey. Its team is composed of a highly experienced psychiatrist, psychologists, and therapists who are deeply passionate about helping patients achieve optimum mental health. Prior to going into private practice, the clinic’s team held clinical leadership positions in the civil service and restructured hospitals. They were also trained at various institutions both in Singapore and abroad including the National University of Singapore, Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London, University of Queensland, and Edith Cowan University.
