Dr. Siow Yew Siong graduated with MBBS in 1993 and obtained his Master of Orthopaedic Surgery degree in 2000, both from the University of Malaya. In 2001, he completed a fellowship programme under Prof Keith Luk at the University of Hong Kong. In 2002, he returned to Malaysia and became an integral part of Seremban General Hospital’s spine team.
Prior to co-founding Neuro Spine KL, he served at Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre from 2004 to 2011. He then became one of the pioneers of team-based private practice in Malaysia that paved the way for the establishment of Neuro Spine KL, which later became one of the premiere orthopaedic spine centres in the country.
Dr. Siow is an advocate of minimally invasive spinal procedures and surgeries (MIS) as he believes that through advanced technology and by using advanced techniques, spinal problems can be corrected and mobility can be restored without subjecting the patient to unnecessary pain and long recovery periods. Among the MIS procedures that he performs include Percutaneous Discectomy using Nucleoplasty, DiscFx, and Laser Endoscopic Discectomy, which deals with complex spinal diseases and problems.
Dr. Siow, who is also trained in spine deformity correction, prioritizes patient safety. During surgical operations, he uses nerve and spinal cord monitoring to minimise the risk of cord and nerve injuries.
