Travel to Southeast Asia for Micrographic Surgery

Micrographic surgery is the standard treatment for skin cancer. It involves the removal of the affected skin, one layer at a time with each layer immediately examined under the microscope. The procedure continues until the last layer removed is free from cancer cells.

Also called Mohs micrographic surgery, the procedure is the best option if patients wish to preserve as much healthy skin tissue as possible in areas surrounding the cancer. However, this surgical technique requires special training and equipment. In many countries, it is also very expensive as well as time-consuming because it is typically performed in stages. Each stage can cost an average of $2,000 in Western countries.

Fortunately, this procedure is available in Southeast Asia at a much affordable price but the quality of care and treatment outcomes are basically the same with what can be expected in the West. This is because Southeast Asian countries, particularly Singapore, are home to some of the best micrographic surgeons in the world who use the same techniques and technology as their Western counterparts. Singapore features world-class medical schools that produce highly competent surgeons with some even pursuing additional training or professional experience in Western countries. Also, Singapore has one of the best healthcare systems in the world ranked #6 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Singapore also has numerous Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited hospitals that are fully equipped with advanced facilities, modern laboratories, and up-to-date surgical equipment needed to ensure the success of the procedure. The same can be found in Thailand and Malaysia where medical and surgical services are even more affordable.

Aside from taking advantage of world-class surgical and medical care in Southeast Asia, medical travellers can also combine their treatment with a relaxing holiday. Thailand is known for its pristine, white-sand beaches while Singapore features modern tourist attractions. Malaysia also offers a long list of exciting places to explore and rich culture to experience.
